Warrior Mama's Poem
Written for all my warrior mamas. You are not alone.
I’m falling, I’m plummeting, I crash, this hurts
The grit, the grim, the pain, the dirt
Overwhelmed and weak, I can’t see the light
I’m alone and afraid, it’s grip is so tight
Just wait, what’s that? Warmth like a hug
My feet feel beneath me and my heart a hopeful tug
I push, I scream and find strength unknown to me
I’m rising, I can breathe and I can finally see
The anguish and solitude was never meant to be
I was not buried but planted among other trees
My warriors, my friends, cancer mamas stand tall
You are fierce, you are bold, I won’t let you fall
The pain that we've shared may someday bear fruit
But only because of the past, the unseen, called our ROOTS
